Hello Satya,
It would be great day when RTI activists and 498a victims stand shoulder to shoulder to eradicate the misuse of 498a . I will not be able to attend the seminar , my apologies. But I would like to contribute in a humble way towards its success, hence this RTI application with a request to everyone to file this application as you all prepare to attend the seminar.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Application for seeking information Under Sec 7(1) of RTI Act 2005
To The Public Information Officer your 498a Police station City where 498a Police Station is Located.
1.Name of Applicant : Your Name 2. Address : Your address 3.Particulars of Information -
a) Concerned Department : SHO's Office b)Period for which Information asked for : Dec1 2005 to Till date
c)Other details Required on your file : RTI Act Compliance File
ci) A Certified Copy of “ Report on Compliance of provisions Sec 4 (1) b of RTI act 2005 and list of Suo Moto declaration “ is required
4.I state that the information sought does not fall within the exemptions contained in the section 8 of the Right to Information Act 2005 and to the best of my knowledge it pertains to your office
5. A Postal order for . towards payment of fee is enclosed herewith.
Place : Signature of Applicant -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This application does not need any fee to be paid. By making this application , the police station will understand that , PS Compliance with RTI act was to be completed by Dec1 2005 . But most PSs across the country till date have not done Suo Moto declarations. It is a very small effort from my side to stop the misuse of 498a. The moment any PS complies with Sec 4 (1) b of RTI act , it will be giant leap towards the eradication of Misuse of 498a.
Wish you all success in the RTI seminar.
rgds raghu.

Raghu, Pls use a little more detail and the Place where it is to be filed. To my knowledge SHO is not a PIO in Delhi at least.

Poppinder,
File this application to as many PSs as Possible. The SHO is the boss of the Station. Hence , he/she can be the PIO or he/she can assign the job to some one else in the PS. If the PS has to fully comply with the provisions of the Sec 4(1)b of RTI act , the following information should on display at the entrance of PS.
1) List of Files 2) Who opened the File & when, why ?. 3) Who are the decisions makers in the PS?. 4) What is the decision making process flow chart?. 5) where will you get the information about the decision and in which register ?.. There are a total of 132 sub sections that PS had to comply prior to Dec1 2005. But a survey by a Delhi based NGO found that most PSs are yet to start work in this regard. rgds raghu

hi all,
all ACP's are Cental Assistant Public Information Officer (C.A.P.I.O) and DCP's are the C.P.I.O.
and not the S.H.O.

Trimbakam,
Please do not mislead people on the forum , by wrongly interpreting PIO and CPIO.
PIO - Public Information Officer , applicable to all PS. CPIO - Central Public Information Officer , applicable to only central government agencies.
DCP office will have a PIO , FAA.
SHO is the PIO of PS.
Hope this information helps. Make an application for Sec4(1) a, 4(1)b of RTI act 2005 to any PS , you will get know more about PIO and FAA.

SHO's usually are A.P.I.O (Assistant Public Information Officer). Search the State Information Commission web site and download for more details. The ACP will be the P.I.O in most cases.
If in doubt send the RTI to State Home Ministry and within 5 days they shall forward to the SHO.
